Concrete mixer semi-trailers are completely different from standard cargo trailers. They carry "live" concrete – from loading to unloading, the drum keeps turning. A full load is 10-20 tons, and if the drum stops, the concrete starts setting.

1. Pre-Trip Checks – Drum and Hydraulics Are the Core

Drum exterior inspection. Walk around and check for dents, cracks, or deformation. Welds are weak points – address cracks before loading. Also check mixing fins (blades) for wear or breakage.

Hydraulic system check. The drum is driven by hydraulics. Check fluid level and clarity – milky means water contamination, dark means overheating. Trace hoses for chafing, bulges, or leaks. First oil change at 500 hours, then every 2000 hours or annually.

PTO check. The PTO connects the engine to the hydraulic pump. Confirm smooth engagement and disengagement before departure.

Brakes and tires. Air brake check, tire pressure and condition – the 3-Axle Concrete Mixer Trailer carries heavy loads, so brakes work hard.

2. Loading and Transport – Drum Must Keep Turning

Add water before loading. Run the drum empty with water for 1-2 minutes before loading – wet drum walls prevent concrete sticking.

Control load volume. Overloading strains the hydraulic system and raises oil temperature – keep within rated capacity.

Keep drum turning during transport. Maintain 2-4 RPM continuous rotation – this is the rule. Hydraulic pressure should be in the 8-12MPa range.

3. Unloading – Clean Discharge Depends on Daily Care

Confirm drum rotation before opening the discharge. Watch for smooth, even flow.

Wash the drum immediately after unloading. Once concrete hardens inside, cleaning becomes expensive and damaging. Pay attention to the discharge opening, chute, and blade backs.

Inspect discharge chute and seals. Check for cracks or deformation. Ensure the chute moves freely.

4. End-of-Day Maintenance – Don't Let Concrete Sit Overnight

Thorough drum cleaning. Wash inside after each shift – focus on blades, drum opening, and discharge chute where residue hides.

Inspect seals and blade wear. Check the drum opening ring for wear. Worn blades reduce mixing quality.

Check hydraulic hoses and fittings. Look for leaks – if left overnight, oil loss means the drum won't turn next morning.

5. Scheduled Maintenance

Hydraulic oil. Change at 500 hours first time, then every 2000 hours or annually. Don't mix different brands.

Reducer gear oil. Change at 150 hours first time, then every 2000 hours or annually. Use 85W-90 gear oil.

Mixing blades. Inspect regularly for wear or deformation – worn blades can't mix properly.
